First convince yourself whether you are a PM material and whether you have the skills of PM and caliber to drive projects.
Secondly, you should have salary like PM to be PM, confused? When you are earning like PM you will never be demotivated to do the job, when you are king get paid like king. Else you will feel world is unfair for you.
The opportunity outside market for PM will become challenging for you. PMs will have vast experience and the driving skills, precision balancing between teams needs organizational maturity. So you cannot convince hiring manager that you have skills of PM in 7 years of industry expertise
Lastly, in team of 10 there will be one PM. And remaining 9 are technical. So it means total opportunity outside market for PM will be way too less than technical positions. So you should be ready with this as well.
