Career shift to IT

Hello People,

How to see if the IT field( data science to be specific) is for you before making a shift to it from non IT background. I am thinking of joining online course for python as it's the starting point(?) from what I read about it. Can anyone inform best one?

Background:

electrical engineer MTech with close to 8 yrs work experience in manufacturing sector but don't find it interesting. Additionally poor salary&growth, monotonous work.

Why IT?

  1. Remote work option
  2. Good saving opportunity
  3. Even individual contributor gets enough compensation and don't have to be a manager unless you want to.

Has anyone done this career shift successfully?

Thanks
