Career Dilemma: Stay for Skill Growth or Switch for Financial Gain?

With 3 years of experience in my current domain, I’m at a crossroads. My current role feels a bit outdated, and job opportunities are limited. I’ve received an offer from another company with an 80% salary hike. However, my manager is supportive of shifting my domain within the organization, allowing me to grow new skills.

I’m torn between staying to develop my skills in a new domain or taking the opportunity to switch companies for the financial gain. Money vs. skill growth—what would you prioritize in this situation?

Skill growth is one of the over rated reasons to stick to a role/company. Skill matters only in individual roles like doctors, lawyers, CA, architects, investors etc.. not as a SDE.
Most of our normal salaried jobs in tech world have broken up. Meaning most people work on one part of a big project. Beyond a certain years of exp, our deliverables are completely different. Nobody witha decent career growth is not going to be doing the same job for more than 3-5 years. With this time line, the whole "learning" and "skill development" is nonsense that rangoli idiots and management feeds us.

Go for money, no one is going to know what you did 5 years ago. What we say, is what we did.

Ask your manager to do an off cycle salary adjustment and shift in domain, both. someone is willing to give you 80% raise not out of good will , but because you are worth that much currently. Managers prefer to dongle carrots because that's the easy way out for them , losing you is hard on them you don't know it probably ,but trust me, you leaving will hurt his reputation, not that he cares about you or your career, hence he will conveniently roll you over to another team in the name of lateral movement and reduce his headache. Otherwise he has to take it up with higher management and ask for budget to make an off cycle adjustment erc, which is not easy and time consuming, so essentially you leaving puts him in between a Rock and a hard place and the easy way out is for him to roll you over to another team.... while skills are important and more important than money any day , but 80% raise means your salary has gone out of sync with market value.

The current domain which i want is not there under him. He said i should try internally and he will try too. Once I get enrolled in another project then they can roll me off from the current one until then I will be working for my team itself.
