Career Decision — Need Opinions

Background:

Worked in a service based mnc (around 3.5 years) on Java and web technologies.

Then joined Infosys (current role, legacy tech stack in java, minimal learning). Infosys - 6 months completed. Notice period is 3 month. Not resigned yet.

I have one year of startup experience at the beginning of my career.

Current package: ₹11.3 LPA. Overall yoe: 5 years

Situation Now: The work-life balance at Infosys is fine, but: Legacy tech stack — very minimal technical growth. Not getting along with the tech lead. Feeling like I’m stagnating and wasting time.

Questions for the community:

  1. Is resigning NOW safe if I plan to take a break and then join a better company?. 6 month completed and 3 more month of notice period I will serve. So totally 9 month.

  2. If I take a 3–6 month break after Infosys, will I still be able to get into product companies, or should I avoid breaks right now given the market?

  3. In your opinion, is it better to stay and complete 1 year in a legacy tech role, or exit earlier and focus on learning modern skills during a break?

Note : I already have two gaps in my resume. One of two year and another of one year. And I find both of them really useful till today.

Recently, when I changed my notice period to “Immediate Joiner,” I was flooded with phone calls from recruiters. However, after changing it to a 3-month notice period, I did not receive a single call.

Market isn't great. If it's legacy tech stack, use your downtime to learn something useful. Attempt a few interviews at non-dream companies to see if you're able to crack them in this current environment. Would recommend timing your exit at 9 months to complete 1 year when you leave.(The recruiting world is still run by HRs who prefer seeing round numbers).
