Career Crossroads: 100% Hike vs. Europe Onsite Opportunity

Seeking advice from experienced professionals.

*Background:

  • 4.5 years in tech (WiTCH)
  • Strong profile, publications, certificates
  • Underpaid (6 LPA) compared to peers
  • Getting married soon, seeking better opportunities

Dilemma:

  • Current company offered onsite opportunity in Hungary (Europe):

    • Undefined duration
    • Monotonous work
    • No clear compensation/benefits
    • Not research-focused
  • Pros: Europe exposure, Schengen visa, potential L1 opportunity

  • Cons: Short-term stint, difficult with partner

  • Alternative offer from Medical Company:

    • 80-90% hike
    • Different city in India
    • Partner employment opportunity
    • Serious work expectations (no weekend off)

Questions:

  1. Is onsite opportunity genuine or just a lure?
  2. Should I negotiate with my current company?
  3. Or switch to the new company?
  4. What's the best approach considering family responsibilities?

Additional context: Eldest in family, significant financial contributor.

Onsite opportunity can disappear once you withdraw resignation like others have mentioned already. You also mentioned that it's short term. Once you return after few months, you'll be back at your current salary if I'm not wrong and you won't save a big chunk at onsite in few months either. In my opinion, if you consider to stay back, try to negotiate to increase your offshore package to match the new package and also get onsite. However do not fall for any promises that will be fulfilled after few months. Get revised offer before you withdraw resignation.

Europe onsite is not for saving money. Hungary onsite, you will not save money and you need to spend all of your earnings to survive that includes all your travel expenses. Switching for othe company is the better option in my opinion.

As other might have pointed out, there's no guarantee in TCS. One might be promised one thing and even without employee's knowledge that opportunity is vanished overnight. I'd suggest to move on, join a different company, get more work exposure. Once you've enough experience and skillset you can always look for a job at your preferred location anywhere in the world.

If you are in TCS, then don't believe them even if they are giving you flight tickets for europe. Any future promise in TCS is a false and gimmick to hold the resource.

If already you have a visa and are all processed then prefer Europe . In the short term how much we are talking here is at least a year then good chances are your visa gets extended. If it's just vocal promise then without thought switch . You have many years ahead after 3 yrs u can switch again
