Trending @Cognizant; Career advice for PAT - IsMO domain

I am currently PAT. Joined in May last year, it's been 9 months since then. I was told in training itself that I have been a strictly support domain which is ADM IsMO. There is no development work done in this BU. Due to lack of opportunities outside and less awareness, I took the offer and joined. After joining I have realised for the last 6 odd months that I have got myself in a very bad situation. There is no significant work in my project that can upskill me and boost in my career. We do just monitoring and health checks that an 8th Grader pass can also do. People talk about those lavishing numbers that they get on switching but it's difficult for me because I am not getting any industry experience on a particular stack. I might learn from UDEMY but how to compete with guys who have actual industry experience for the same role. Also, the notice period is icing on the cake. I come from a middle class background and can't leave a job without securing another one. So, I need to crack a job with better pay, better role, without any industry experience and with the burden of a 90 day notice period on my head. Why will a recruiter even give me a chance? I am devastated. I am borderline depressed. My career which started 9 months ago is doomed to be a failure. I never thought in college that the first job is so important, that the tech stack is everything. Please help me. Please.

Why r u so frustrated only after 9 months.? There have been people on bench since 2 years. Don't take too much pressure. I will tell you what to do. Just study courses like Java, spring boot, Angular and sql server. No need of actual project. Udemy is enough. U do it for next 1 year. Keep doing whatever u have in current project. Now after nearly 2 years switch saying u r a full stack Java developer. Need a project experience, just message here. I will tell u all project work in 1 day that u r suppose to tell in interview. But first keep your cool and keep studying.

Its okay take up good courses like salesforce, data science after verifying. One which has real world projects.
Lie on your resume ask what your seniors do and paste it. This way you upskill and have a better chance at getting a job. Dont wait for the project to give you work. Also ask you hcm, span leads if you can be part of hackathons, or other initiatives. Stay in touch with them and keep asking them if there are any projects

Every new joiner went through the same just dont stop upskilling and keep in touch with seniors

Switch. Use your time, study and get out of this company asap. AI will soon take over our jobs and we are not gonna gain skills in CTS. It’s a trap. Get out!

I went through some of that. Keep upskilling yourself and brush up as well. You are in IsMo so you might be getting time ...so use it well to prepare for certifications like Salesforce , Git , Ms etc.
Don't take pressure, but try to get out of it asap. You still have time so chill and work on your skills.

I have been in the situation you are in , patience is the key during these times. This is not end of your career but this is starting . Try to up skill yourself in the type of work you are aspiring for and start looking for the opportunities internally and externally by building network. Knowledge and efforts will never cheat on you, it’s your negative thoughts towards the approach that would. Personally, I have spent 2 years of career ups killing waiting patiently for the type of work i was looking for and here I’m doing different from what other do and standing straight by banging different types of opportunities. It all depends on your mindset and never neglect the work that you are asked to do now for the future type you are aspiring for. For few it may take one year, for few 2 and so on. Stay positive, stay patience and respect every day and put up with the efforts

How to change? There is shortage of projects. If I don't take projects, I will be on bench. I have to change company, that seems only the viable option..
