Career Advice

Hello everyone, I am a Quant intern at a trading firm and Currently pursuing btech in Computer Science from one of the prestigious IIIT ,24 Batch. My 7th sem is going to start from next month.

I am developing some algo's for market analysts and I think I am not learning any tech stack from this as these algo's are developed using some basic tool provided by the company. There are very less chances of PPO and even the timings are from 11am to 10pm. So due to these timings I don't get any time to prepare for other companies for oncampus placements.

I am writing this post to ask should I leave the company and prepare for on campus placements or continue working here. As I can continue my intern during the sem coz there is no attandance criteria in my college.

largely depends on the opportunity cost, how much is their PPO if you get it?

if it's more than the package you'd get during placements then it makes sense to get that offer, and then look for off campus opportunities in better firms by leveraging your offer.

if not, then sit for Placements, either way, if you're not liking the work or the firm, you shouldn't work there as you wouldn't be happy if you do, no matter the money.

If the internship offers minimal learning and limited PPO chances, prioritize on-campus placements. Leaving will allow focused preparation for better opportunities. If manageable, balance both by optimizing time and using weekends for preparation. Long-term growth should guide your decision.
