Career advice

I have 12 years of experience in IT industry and I have been only with 3 firms so far. Primary reason for job change has always been relocation as my personal life changed during these times. I have always been a top performer since the very beginning and I have been a manager too. But now I start loosing interest and I want to know what options do I have if I don’t want to scale up the ladder anymore. I just want to continue to remain in work to support my family but at the same time I don’t want to feel pressured to grow in career. I feel IT is not a place to retire but I don’t know what other options exist. All the technologies that I worked so hard for are almost becoming obsolete and I’m at a point where I don’t know what to do. Finding job scares me just as much as staying in the current one.

Is anyone experienced beyond 15 years and are yet just Sr. Consultants or managers and what are your thoughts?

It's okay to prioritize stability over growth. Many seasoned IT professionals opt for roles like senior consultant, teaching, or freelance consulting, leveraging experience instead of upskilling. Non-technical domains like project management or business analysis can offer balance.
