I have 20 days of notice left. Intially they reached out to me regarding retention but offered less than external offer so I said I would consider if it is better than external one and open to discuss if there is any chance to revisit.. now I am in my end of notice.. and waiting for one offer which is not relased yet as they want me to join early..
So I am thinking to ask for retention,may I know before how many days I should reach them.. will they approve at this point

If you want to get retained reachout to your manager immediately, it's very unlikely that you would get more than your offer in hand.
If you have an offer of amount X, then you may expect X-50k, including a retention bonus.
Will they approve if I reach out now fornthe initial offer?

Process involves multiple approvals so it may take a week or so to get completed.
