Can My Employer Force a 3-Month Notice When I Never Signed the Update?

My offer letter states a 2-month notice, but my company changed it to 3 months during appraisals. I wasn’t eligible for the cycle and never signed anything. Can they enforce it on me? Anyone faced this in India?
