Can I gift my manager a deodorant?
He’s very good at what he does. But it’s almost impossible to have a meeting with him as he smells real bad.
I don’t know if it’s genetics, personal hygiene. He also smokes a lot.
Give me some ideas on how to communicate this to him?
don’t even try. If he thinks you are mocking him or gifting deodorant to tell him that he stinks, he can take it negatively

Try gifting an expensive luxury perfume, this way he will take it as a Gift not feedback
I understand your genuine concern. But if you trying gifts between Jan-Mar time, the appraisal time, then other colleagues will wrongly label your gift & your intent.
Many Indians especially our prev generation doesn't realise they stink. I would communicate it gently with him!
No matter what deodrant u give him.. he will always smell smokey!! Haha
