Can I Ask for a Higher Counter-offer After Months of Delayed Compensation?

I’m currently facing a dilemma regarding a counter offer from my current company (TCS). A few months ago, I received an offer from another company, but when I informed TCS about it, they advised me not to resign and promised a counter offer. However, there was a significant delay in processing it—almost 3 months. I even requested an update during that time, but they mentioned my status was "active" and that it would take some time.

Finally, when the delay became too much, I decided to resign. Now, they are trying to retain me with a counter offer, but in the meantime, I have received a contractual offer from another company, which is almost double the amount of my previous ask.

Considering I’m the only person working on a critical project with a lot of dependency on me, I’m wondering if it’s reasonable to ask for a new counter offer, one that compensates me for the loss I incurred during the last 6 months due to the delayed raise and recognition.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is it practical to ask for this new counter offer, or should I accept what’s on the table?

Sure, ask for the revised counter. If you yourself won't realise your value, no one else will. You deserve better if TCS isn't ready to provide that much please resign and go where you get the money worth your skill. TCS will never agree for the counter, whether it's less or high. There's a lot of politics involved here.

The first step is to resign and then only start a discussion for a counter offer.
