Bus Conductors in Blr
I recently started going around the city in blr monsoon in buses. Had really bad experiences with buses conductors. I saw them looting money from passengers especially non-locals, by not returning the change and even scolding them in Kannada on top of that. I witnessed one particular incident where a lady fought back and managed to get her 370rs change after giving a rs500 note. The conductor had claimed, “We don’t give change because it’s written on the back of the ticket,” or something like that. I was shocked. 370rs is not a small amount for an average person traveling by bus. This is after the lady fought for about 15 min and getting down after 2 stops.
They didn’t return my change either, around 15rs. When I gave a note, they said they'd return the change later and just wrote something on the back of the note. But when I asked again, they said things like “we don’t give it like that,” or gave some other excuse.
Sometimes they had put my stop to next 2 stops extra and charged me more. Didnt realise in the first. Trusted then blindly. I realised on the way back when a conductor asked for a smaller amount.
Thankfully, we now have UPI available on buses. This incident happened on a day when UPI wasn’t working for me.
The behavior towards non-locals is usually the worst, and sometimes even locals face similar treatment.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
I’ve started taking autos instead, though I don't think that’s a much better option either.
Kannada speaking is becoming important. I have learnt Kannada and can speak , read, in Kannada in the last few years of my stay in bangalore. But seeing these incidents, I believe this is not the way to treat another human. I started to loose respect for the state and the people because of such small incidents but impacting.
Idk how much these conductors would be looting. Im guessing around atleast 500rs per day.
If u roll it up to all buses n conductors in the city. In a year. It would be a significant amount.

Bangalore is a shit hole
Best to just go along till you move to a better place

Carry change and coins is the solution. You can't change them so better you change.

I haven't traveled by local bus in years. But they would always write the change on the back of the ticket, which they would return when you show them near your destination or when they are less busy. A few times, they even knowingly returned extra change, because they did not have exact change.
Is this a case of miscommunication about what they write on the back of the ticket?

No, they wrote on the back of the ticket and guaranteed it would be returned. And later told that cant be proof of change to be returned. And they said even u can write something n come and how can I give money like that?
Same excuse to me and some other peeps in bus, before my stop. The northie guy sitting beside me didnt even bother to ask, seeing all this.
Anyone who asks the conductor shouts at them in Kannada and shoo them away.

The language may have gone here n there. But really frustated from last few weeks.

Better use UPI and do not pay cash. They do this for locals too

This happens everywhere not only bengaluru

Extremely pathetic situation. No humanity and character left. Public has also imbibed their politician 's traits. Doing rude, bad and exploitative behaviour has become normal in Vishwguru.
