Building culture in a 1yr MBA program
Building culture in any academic program is fascinating, but there’s something uniquely challenging about a one-year MBA program. Unlike traditional multi-year programs, where senior batches often set the tone, one-year programs lack that organic transfer of legacy, rituals, and anchors.
This raises a question that I can’t seem to shake off: how do you create a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability in such a short span of time?
With diverse aspirations—some aiming to launch startups, others pivoting careers, and a few just exploring possibilities—what binds the cohort? What fuels motivation when the natural "senior-to-junior inspiration" is absent? And how do you ensure that this culture is not only impactful but also sustainable, passed on to future cohorts?
I don’t have answers yet, but this puzzle keeps me thinking. Culture isn’t just about rules or rituals; it’s about that intangible fluid that holds everything together—something you can’t enforce but must cultivate. In a high-pressure, high-expectation environment, it feels like the stakes are even higher to get it right.
Would love to hear your thoughts: What makes culture thrive in such unique contexts? What have you seen work?
