Buddism beliefs
Any buddists here? I am an atheist but I am more attracted towards Buddhism because it's more similar to atheism and I want to follow buddism rules and all. Have any of you tried monks for days? How is it? Any suggestions for lifestyle changes and Vipassana meditation?
I'm an atheist, but I briefly thought of trying Buddhism in the past, due to the claims about it's atheistic nature.
But when I tried reading more about it, like any other religion it's also full of arbitrary rules for living life, and unprovable metaphysical claims, that didn't sit right with me.
Then I realized, why do I need to follow any system of rules defined by any one external person or group of people?
My power as an atheist lay in the flexibility of choosing my own rules to live life, and actually to mix match good ideas from all other philosophers & religions, instead of having to swallow any one philosopher's or school-of-philosophy's ideas in its entirety, the way religious people have to.
So I never got attracted to any one organized religion or philosophy after that. Having to follow just one philosopher or religion's philosophy in its entirety, against one's own intellectual freedom, is a limitation according to me, not a strength.
So I'll take whatever ideas I like about Buddhism, but leave the rest behind. I don't have to swallow the whole system like its religious adherents have to. 😊
Just my 2 cents. All the best to you on your philosophical journey. 😊👍

Thanks for sharing your experience and thanks for taking your time and typing this big message 😍

If one carefully understands any religion he will find every religion is just trying to teach who is god and how to love him. If one wants to reach a particular destiny he may have many paths to reach there but he has to choose one similarly there are many Bonafide paths to reach god but one has to follow only one path then only he will reach the right destination. Every path is meant for different kinds of people by which they elevate themselves and their consciousness. For this I recommend reading "Journey Home".
When a person follows a particular religion he has to follow it completely just picking whatever you like will not give satisfaction. Actually rules and regulations are good they don't bind us they unbound us from our mind and these material world who bind us. If the doctor prescribed you to take some medicine and follow particular rules to get a cure we follow. If not then our condition will be more miserable.

I have been practicable Nicherin Daishonin’s Buddhism since the last 10 years. It has changed my life and I can vouch for it with my all. Please let me know if you want to know more about this

I am completely beginner please elaborate on this. Ans my parents and my relatives are hindu you know right how many festivals are there in hindu religion so every time they are like why can't you do it just come and pray to the god. I don't know how to avoid all the things and how to tell them that I am not interested in this kind of stuff

You and literally 25% Hindus. Most are atheists and agnostics but culturally rooted in Hinduism incl myself. Many like me just meditate instead of praying. It makes more sense. At its core & beyond the lore, Hinduism becomes pretty abstract in regards to its definition of a deity - ranges between atheism and pantheism. Buddhism has similar ideas but it has some fundamental ideas of losing desire & self which wasn't for me so Hinduism is still where I'm at and will continue to be.

I had tried it, but it's also full of bull shit.
If you want to be aethist better not to follow any religion, every religion is full of bullshit.

Not worth it, I have seen my family members turn from Hinduism to Buddhism only to follow similar practices. I stayed on my own path of criticising every but of BS in any religion
There are many forms of Buddhism and as far as I know, only Navayaana Buddhism or Neo-Buddhism is truly atheistic. While Buddha himself never claimed any God, he did believe in and preached rebirth and Karma theory.

Yes. I am just a beginner I am learning the buddhism
