Bizarre reason a coworker got fired

Rant. The most bizarre firing happened in my org last week. We have this cross country team spread across Bangalore and SEA building the core super-app checkout flow. Every mid af SDE here thinks they are some hotshot just because they travel to the Jakarta office once a year.

So this guy from my pod, absolute dimwit who mugged up 800 LC mediums to clear the interview, decides he wants to meet his Bumble match in Indonesia. He books a flight last Thursday using the company portal and tells our director he needs an in person architecture sync with the SEA team.

I get it bro, you want to show off your fake expat lifestyle. But he literally expensed a romantic dinner for two on the corporate card. The local engineering manager didnt even know he was in the country until finance flagged the receipt.

They fired him on the spot and made him pay for his flight back on Friday. Im from a shit tier 3 college and even i know you dont mess with corporate travel budgets. Now i have to pick up his Jira tickets. Logging off until i get my sanity back.
