Beyond TCS Talk: The GCC Surge You Can’t Ignore

Everyone’s busy talking about TCS and layoffs, but there’s a quieter plot twist in Indian IT. Global MNCs are setting up their own GCCs (captive centers) in India—directly, not through the usual IT vendors—and they’re not just doing back-office stuff anymore. Think AI/ML, data, cybersecurity, platform engineering, proper product work… the juicy roles. A lot of companies that still outsource today are already planning to go independent in the next 2–3 years, so we might see a weird mix where service firms slow down or trim, while GCCs hire like crazy for high-skill roles. Net-net: Indian IT isn’t dying, it’s just reshuffling. If you’re in cloud, data, SRE/platform, security, DevEx, product, or AI—this wave’s for you. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, NCR are buzzing, and Tier-2 is picking up too. Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost.🙌

Yes this is correct..my current client who has traditionally always outsourced their IT work but have started tremendous hiring in their new office in Pune. This is definitely happening. In-house IT. Reduce outsourcing.

We were working on a project for 2+ years but client took it away and gave to their own team that they had hired recently but seems the team isn't able to do work properly.

But this is also an opportunity for TCS folks to join client if situation permits.

The same situation occurred in my project as well — it was a government engagement that moved out of TCS’s scope due to the client opting for in-house development.

So, can we say that the end of the service industry is near?

Even though TCS billing is way too low compared to competition, clients keeping their own IT dept in India is atleast twice cheaper
