Best city in India for WFH setup
Hey everyone,
If you could work from anywhere in India with a ₹1 lakh monthly salary, which city would you choose to live in with your family (wife and two little girls)?
Looking for suggestions based on the following criteria: • A relatively quiet and safe environment • Decent infrastructure and medical facilities • Good schools for kids • Access to basic amenities • Availability of well-built flats or gated communities for rent
Would love to hear your thoughts!

Go for Chandigarh. Reasonable rent. Lots to do in the city (both party and relax). Olas/Ubers never cancel. Come to pick within 5 min. Good traffic sense amongst people. A lot of amazing weekend trips to Himachal, J&K. Good civic sense amongst people. Great food scene. Lot of greenery and open parks. Summers are a bit harsh but everything else is great. Hardly any roads that are dug up 😂

Kolkata , West Bengal is chepest metro city in india . I will kolkata with no second thoughts

That’s actually a great option, I love the city. Do you have recommendations of apartments or locations?

Kolkata is big no Reason: Bangladeshi infiltration, Mamta Banerjee, Muslim appeasement, leftist ideology are also there, communism
Try to avoid Bihar, west Bengal, Karnataka

If you’re looking for a metro city, Hyderabad is a great option. For promising tier-2 cities, consider Indore, Jaipur, or Ahmedabad.

Thanks, I should have mentioned. I am currently in Hyderabad 🙂

Indore is a great option, infact it's my hometown but with the given circumstances, that is 1 lakh monthly salary and two kids, I think the education cost for a good school here maybe a little high. There are decent schools with 50-60k fees per annum for a kid but if one really wants to send their kids to the top 5 schools of the city, the fees for one kid may be somewhere around 1.5 lakhs per annum and to add on that, there are other expenses as well related to school. Not sure what is the situation in other cities comparatively.

Lucknow

I am living

I second that. It's my hometown and everything is so good about it. You have markets - small and big. Metro connected to the main areas. Public transport is easily accessible. Many cafes, restaurants and Pubs to hang out. Rents are nominal. They are developing Lko as a tier-2 IT city, I hope it does not get messed up in that process.

Surathkal. Very close to Mangalore. Very good educational institutes around. Beautiful beaches all around. Tasty food everywhere. Not at all crowded. If you want to go to malls or shopping it's just 20 mins away.

I must admit this is the first time I’ve heard about this city. Just googled it and it looks beautiful

Just visit once for a holiday. Udupi , kapu, mulki surathkal. Take some surfing classes. Do some kayaking. Checkout some houses for rent or stay. It's modern but laidback. Cost of lining is very less

If you're doing wfh then consider hometown.
If for some reasons 😜 you could not shift there
Then look for heart by city.
Like Pune for those living in Mp, gujrat. Its a win win for both. Pune has good IT companies and weather is also good. Very good gated societies and all types of schools and activities. Trips duration monsoons is blissful..

Kullu, Shimla

Hm that’s an interesting suggestion, you want to elaborate more on why these?

Cities like these two can fulfill all your requirements except the last one. I don't think there are gated societies. Apart from that, air quality is good and you have good places to visit nearby.

Best country to move to?
Finally sick of the infra issues and poor quality of life in B'lore. Been living here for 37 years. Which would be the best country to move to? Have 15 years of tech experience, can get a job anywhere.

Nepal It's cheaper. Buy a farm and grow strawberries. Live the easy life.
Go live in a big Township that would eliminate 85% of India’s infrastructure problems and poor quality of life.

Long term city to live in?
I am a Delhi person who has been living in Bangalore for the last 3 years. I like both cities (both have pros and cons) but I feel in a 10-15 year time frame, both are going to become unsustainable with traffic, safety, rising costs, inf...

Hyderabad.

When do you suggest moving to Mumbai feasible?
and at what family income? Family in question here is in their late thirties with an 8 to kid and a 68 yo father. Will be leaving behind a comfortable own house in a city with no growth. Husband and wife are into VC and Media industries.
