Bengaluru Cracks Down on Water Wastage

• The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has intensified its efforts to curb water misuse, booking 112 cases and collecting fines totaling Rs 5.6 lakh.
• A directive issued on February 17 prohibits the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes like vehicle cleaning, gardening, and construction.
• Rising temperatures and depleting groundwater levels have prompted this action, with scientists warning of potential water scarcity in the summer.
• The southern zone recorded the highest number of violations, followed by the western and eastern zones, and then the northern zone.
• BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar emphasized the importance of conserving water and announced plans to expand the fine campaign.
