Benched After Director’s Exit-Now Clueless
Hey guys, just wanted to share what’s going on with me in case others have experienced something similar.
I joined one of the Big 4 firms earlier this year(March) as a Analyst in Cybersec. (Career transition from ERP Development to Cybersec) Things were going well — I got pulled into a live vendor audit within the first month, and was even tagged as a potential resource for a large proposal. Then the director who brought me in resigned. He wasn't promoted from Director to Partner and that's why he resigned. Now everything's in limbo. That project got handed off to other leadership, and I’ve been dropped quietly. No official communication. Just not involved anymore. I haven’t been assigned to anything since. When I asked my manager what to do, I was told to start going to office more, talking to other managers or directors and showing face so people remember I exist. And I get it, that’s how the system works. But it's disheartening to feel like you’ve done good initial work, only to get benched because someone above you left. I’m still trying to network internally and reach out to managers, but honestly, it’s frustrating to be in this space with no structure or clarity. Especially in Big4 where visibility = survival. Even when I am asking other directors, the response has been quite meh as they said client wants experienced resource. Anyone else been through this kind of situation — senior leaves, and you’re suddenly without a project? How did you navigate it? Is there any Bench Period in Big4 like other Indian Corporates like TCS, Wipro or Infosys? Would love to hear from anyone who's managed to bounce back from this kind of scenario.
Thanks.
