What is the current state of the bench? Do they let us sit on the bench for three months or do they let us start right away?

They'll pressure you to find a project in first 45 days, then if you can't will ask you to work or reskill in another technology.
It all depends on how much of a thick skin you have to tolerate pressure.

Why you want to be on bench. Right now situation is too tough. If you’re on bench then things are bad for you and you’re highlighted. Anytime they can ask you to drop paper.
