People barely come to office and they asked me to change cities last year when I joined. I want to go back to my home town, it’s been a year now and very difficult to maintain/save money on what they’re paying me

You can apply for location change after being at that location for 1 year.. try to apply. If not then go to your home location and WFH, if your project doesn't demand to come to office. My suggestion, rest is your decision
