Automation to Developer role transition

Ever heard this? “Your background is in X role, so it is better you stick to roles as X”

Was it just assumed that one can only do X for their life because they once started off doing X or only other thing would be to move to a people management position?

Is some role I took up years ago going to define me for the rest of my life?

Are transitions a myth? Is it humanely impossible?

Can teams not offer a chance to learn to someone is eager to try new things?

Is work delivery the only goal of companies and not letting their employees explore their professional potential?

Should only interns and freshers be allowed to try new things?

Maybe these questions are like ones AI doesn’t ask but an employee might. It must be easy to have AI do your work. AI won’t trouble you with these questions.

Am I wrong to have these questions? Then where I am right now is justified.

Am I the only “mid-level” engineer in the industry to want to try different things than what they’ve been doing?

Today is the day I am deciding to not settle till I land a job with a role that I want, not what people say is good for me, not what people told me I’m good at, no. For once, I’m going to focus on getting what I want, come what may. No matter if I die hungry preparing and interviewing. Is it this hard to be able to do what you want to do in this country? How many challenges and people will I have to overcome and cross to be able to finally able to what I want?

P.S. This is what I feel but I doubt myself because of the ever evolving nature of the industry. Requesting suggestions. Currently laid off, no offers. < 30days remaining for NP.
