At what salary range do you need to stop being a generalist?

A lot of entry level business roles allow people to operate as generalists while also paying a decent salary (e.g, general leadedship roles, management consulting etc.). However, as one progresses up the salary ladder it becomes tougher to justify a high salary unless you have some specialist skill set (product, marketing etc. or even industry-specific). What's the threshold where this begins to change acc to you?

I have seen specialists not know a thing about their field when presented with a situation that is in their domain but they haven’t encountered it yet + reluctance to even address the issue, instead putting it on the person who wants it to be solved to solve it on their own.
And I am talking about Senior VP level folks working in reputed organisations with salaries way beyond 70 LPA

So ideally you can get by even if you don’t know anything and earn good.

Interesting question.
I feel generalists are generally paid low.
And transitioning for generalist roles also gets difficult with career projection.
