Assaulted by Bengaluru Policeman in the middle of the night

I was on my way home after partying in Koramangala. I was slightly sloshed at this nightclub. My friends suggested that I should take an auto but I was feeling a little adventurous. So, I booked a Rapido Bike Taxi. This was the worst decision of my life.

There were two policemen who had cordoned off the road and they asked us to stop. The guy driving the bike slowed down and then started to accelerate again to evade them.

Motherf*ckers swung their lathi onto me and hit me so hard that I got the worst bruise I ever, all across my elbow.

Cannot comprehend why the heck I was hit by a cop for no fault of my own. Inhuman.

Tell me I am not alone with this.

U were asked to stop but u fake slowed and evade them… I mean it would look suspicious or at least invite resistance i.e. the lathi in this case. Sure u were not the driver but to the cops u are no different in such case. Maybe they even aimed for driver but just got u so ur bad luck. Anyway, u got ur fill of adventure eh

If you remember this, you didn't drink enough.

It's common across the board, in most T1 cities. Happened with me in Gurgaon riding pillion. Right across the back too.

That welt took a couple of weeks to heal.

Having an intoxicated pillion on a bike is a traffic violation AFAIK. Unlike cars which don't need to be balanced by drivers, bikes need to be actively balanced and having an intoxicated person sitting in pillion seat risks road safety.

It's just like not having more than 2 people on a bike.

The police wouldn't even have known it was a rapido ride. They would have presumed you to acquaintances and when the rider didn't hault, off came the lathi on the other.

PeppyPotato

Sorry that the cops hit you. It is not legal to hit someone like this. Having said that, you totally deserved that one. Not sure if you even realize this, but being drunk and adventurous doesn't entitle you to risk the life of a poor rapido rider. You not only risked your own life but also the driver's. And after doing that you are immature enough to boast about not paying the poor guy. Shame on you! Grow up!

Locals are wreaking havoc in Bengaluru

It's madness what's happening in this city. I was once, myself, attacked by a mob after a guy ran his bike into my car and then threw a huge rock at me because I called him crazy.

20-odd people not only beat me up, but also beat my dad...
