Artifact shutting down is just sad. How many of you all here used it? Did you like the product?
I read news on it multiple times a week, and now it’s just gone. Sad to see Instagram founders fail at building an amazing news app

When they introduced the social reporting angle, anyone writing a post on top of an article, it started detoriating for me

Ya I think that was the first sign that just pure news isn’t working
But it was a very shoddy implementation
Also like, for some reason it was evolving to product hunt/iphone discussions

Liked the "mark as clickbait" feature

No product market fit. No surprise
Truly living up to its name now.

Instagram to InstaGober 😂

Shows that market will tell you the truth even if you’re a legendary founder.

Consumer tech is the best sector because the market (customers) do not give a flying fuck about how much money you have raised or what your background is. The product just needs to work.
This is unlike B2B SaaS where you need a network to drive sales. Even D2C/platforms such as quick commerce are sectors where you can impress a small number of people, raise millions, spend on marketing and sell your products at negative margins to show growth.

Looks like they're gonna turn off posts and comments immediately and then turn off complete in Feb: https://medium.com/artifact-news/shutting-down-artifact-1e70de46d419

Everybody's missing fundamental part of consumer tech.
It is fucking hard, way harder than any other biz. Its also why fb went on acquisition spree or tried to acquire most consumer apps, as building in house is irrelevant in consumer app biz.
