Even I am also not in favour of 90 days notice. But as much as I know this is generally followed in Big IT companies and corporate sectors and its common in India. The reason behind this is- For Employer- to ensure business continuity, allow for the hiring/training of replacements, and facilitate complex knowledge transfers. For Employees-it provides a long runway for employees to secure new employment, negotiate better terms, or manage personal finances. In the USA and Europe 2-4 weeks shorter notice period is followed.
