Are Amazon promotions and appraisals politically driven??
I've observed a significant amount of internal politics within Amazon departments, particularly regarding promotions. It seems like individuals who engage in favoritism or 'bootlicking' are the ones often rewarded with promotions. Have others also noticed this trend?
Politics in promotions? Happens everywhere, not just Amazon. The key is to outshine with your work. Now, how will you do that?

Not true. Everyone thinks they have worked hard. If your work isn’t making sense to leadership then its fair to reward less hardworking individual who actually made some impact.
Yes. Promotion depends on the manager and other higher up stakeholders. It's not fully meritocracy driven.
Yeah. Also “diversity” candidates precede the stack these days just cuz it’s a L8 org metric!
