Applied to 100+ jobs, 3 YOE, strong skill set. Why am I failing the final hurdle?
I'm hitting a wall in my job search and am feeling really defeated.
I'm a frontend dev with 3 years of experience. I'm solid in Angular/React, and I've upped my game with UX/UI development, Next.js, and building cool full-stack projects from the ground up, even handling the architecture design. I've been relentless, applying to hundreds of jobs on platforms like LinkedIn, Naukri, Wellfound and even company portals for over 4 months now.
Out of all those applications, I only got shortlisted for 3 of the companies for the first coding round. Two of those went amazingly well, I nailed everything they asked. But nope, both still ended in rejection. It's crushing, not because of the rejection, but because I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I initially thought the market was just dry, but I'm watching people get hired for the exact roles I applied for, and it just makes me feel totally incompetent. I'm not a quitter, but I feel paralyzed in my job search right now.
Is my application method flawed, or is there a huge blind spot in my skill set? If you've cracked this code or have a totally different approach that works, please throw your suggestions my way, I'm ready to change anything!

Bruh thats brutal

🥲

Ask yourself:
- Is your attitude likeable from interviewer?
- Do you feel you are the Superman of coding and others don't know the tech like you.?
- Do you make other people inferior because you just boast your skills?
And many more questions...
Point is you will be expert in coding and nailed the interview but if interviewer did not like your attitude and does not find you a good team player. Then my friend, you have the problem to rectify.

I agree with what you said, I've even taken some mock interviews just to be prepared. But the issue is, I've not reached the stage of speaking to the interviewer. I kept getting rejection emails after the first coding round itself

I don't know whether you believe or not but listening to this on repeat will get you a job in a month. I have got 5x of my YOE.

One issue might be the way you position yourself or build your narrative. When an interviewer asks you a question like "Tell me something about yourself", what they really want to know is how you can help them and the company. They don't care what you exactly did in the past.
Think of this as a concept and try to see how you can remodel your answers such that everything you speak and demonstrate is purely to make it seem like you're the perfect fit for the role.

Oh that's a new perspective, didn't think of it this way Thanks for the insights!

Yoo when is the feature for booking more than 2 cabs / day dropping?

What's your notice period...if it's 3 months then usually there are very few takers in the market and it becomes really a big challenge while getting shortlisted..

Yeah unfortunately it is 3 months. I can get an early release if I request, and if I'm not allocated in a project

Honestly, I think the main reason you’re not getting interview calls is your 3-month notice period. My suggestion , put in your papers and try to get your notice period reduced. Also, tweak your resume with the right keywords and key skills — that really helps with shortlisting through ATS. If you mention that you’re an immediate joiner, companies are more likely to move you to the next round. Also, try to upskill a bit in the latest tools or tech — that really helps too

I’m not a techie but hope this helps -
- Record your interviews and then listen to them you will find the gap. (Mobile record ing keeping in the side) just to reflect that how confident you sounded on the interview, how was your attitude.
Because, IMO, sometimes I our head we did our best but in reality there is some gap. Also I agree with @SuperBatman ‘s point too.
All the best! Ho jayega ye bhi phase bhi clear :)

Yes you do have a point. Thanks for the kind words :)

Do let me know if you need any HR’s number. I’ve few will share over the DM.

Also depends on your expectations. This new wave of techies who are either from tech BG or non tech BG have very unrealistic expectations. I also take lots of intervies. RN our comp is not hiring though but I have taken many intervies like in 100s in the past. When I see the resume 95% of the applicants are job hoppers. So we have to think if we hire such person who we know might switch after getting increment just to increase CTC. We are informed to reject such candidates. Because to get familiar with the project and actually delivering the real work takes time after joining. Ang the candidates are just start giving something back to the company and they leave and the process goes on. After all companies dont care about anyone. They want profit. Right now the problem is there are very few job openings and too many candidates everywhere. In such scenario compromizing is the best solution.

This is something that I didn't know. Thanks for sharing! I agree with you. There should be a right balance between the candidate and the recruiter. I'm someone who cares more about more opportunities, experience, learning, and upskilling from the company

For long have you been applying? Are you in notice period

I've been applying since 4 months, I'm not on notice period, but I can get early release if I ask

Good keep on trying bro. How much %hike are you asking ? And what is your current ctc

Big tech is being bombarded with applications go for nicher areas like banking, consulting or else medium sized PBCs which have around 5-10k employees and get referrals for positions there

Ah okay By any chance, do you know any platforms that I can use to get referrals?

Similarly going through the job application and interview process, and the only thing that's worked for well are referrals!
The market is down right now and flooded with people applying for jobs - so the only thing working right now are referrals

Ah makes sense. I did apply using referrals earlier, but didn't find any luck there 😐 I'll start doing that often now

My scenario same im fresher applying but still trying everything

Stay strong buddy! It's better to start prepping at the earliest
