Had quit at 29 after smoking across 20s (avg of 2-3 sticks a day). Hugely positive impact on my health and mental focus

What worked:

  • the core thing is to recognise smoking as negative. Do not think of it as giving up something nice etc - you will relapse. Build repulsion towards smoking somehow.

  • internalise why you want to quit (health, future family etc).

  • figure an alternative to satisfy the craving impulse - coffee, tea and instant push ups worked for me.

  • do not keep cigarettes at home/accessible. If you do smoke as you try to quit -walk to the local shop and buy a single one

  • if you have a zero day (you smoked) , don’t have two in a row

  • exercise or play a sport. You’ll realise how unhealthy you are and how smoking makes it worse

  • the first 20-30 days are key. Easy to not restart after that. In this period - avoid social gatherings or office chai sutta scenes. It will be difficult. Be busy.

All the best mate. Hope your last cigarette is today. You’ll know its your last if you can smoke just half and dispose it 🥲

Went from smoking 30 a day to being clean for 7 years. Then again 30 a day to being clean for about 7 months now. Read "Allen Carrs easy way to quit smoking." if that doesn't work, read "Allen carrs only way to white smoking". If that doesn't work, let me know I can still help. :)

I’ve relapsed after quitting for 3 years. What helped me at the first place was easy way. How did you do it the second and the 3rd time? I’ve read both the books already and back on the downward slope. Any suggestions?

Just smoke 5 packs in a day and you would quit the next day or your soul would have quit, it's easy.

I quit cold turkey after 15 years of smoking average 12 cigrettes per day. Been almost 20 months sober now.

You can ask me anything

I didn’t quit smoking per se but I managed to kick cigarettes and take up vaping. It’s been 5 years and I feel health benefits from having stopped cigarettes, my lips aren’t blackened anymore, my lung capacity has increased and I’m not paranoid about carcinogenic toxins entering by way of tar

Is vaping safe? No clue, but short term studies indicate it might be way safer. Cigarettes have decades of research that back direct linkages between smoking and cancer ( amongst other health issues)

Hit me up if you need a vape dealer in Bangalore/NCR/Mumbai

Quit after smoking infrequently during my college, at my peak used to smoke 2-3 sticks a week. It wasn't very difficult, one fine morning I realised I don't want to smoke anymore and haven't smoked since. Also, my gf not approving of smoking also helped XD

I never thought of myself as a serious smoker. It was like 12-15 cigs in a month. So it was easier for me to quit.

I used to like a girl. One day she asked me about smoking and I lied that I don't. I quit the next day.

It has been a year. I still have cravings for cigarettes but... I don't indulge. Chai intake has increased tho.

If anybody is wondering, it didn't work out with that girl. We broke up. Yes it was worth it.

Used to smoke 1 packet in graduation college days, moved to half a packet in post grad, and 1 cigeratte per day in my first job for a year. Post that, stopped taking it regularly. Occasionally, once in 6 months, might be on Birthday and any such places. Struggle was hard going from half packet to 1 cigarette a day, failed to quit multiple times but the rest was nearly effortless. Few tips:

  1. Never keep cigarettes at home, buy it loose when you need
  2. Tell your friends that you have quit smoking due to a medical issue, in case they insist to smoke the last puff
  3. In case having any side effect post quitting, have it once a while. You might fail few times, but gradually the side effect will get negligible, and you will be successful in quitting smoking My progress: The last puff I smoked was a year back on my birthday. In the last 4 yrs, I smoked 6 cigarettes, which avg to close to 1.25 cigarettes/yrs
