Any Linux kernel devs here ?

Hi devs, I am long time Linux user, I started with web dev got bored of it now working in backend with c++. Some day I want to work in Linux kernel development, so if there are any kernel devs. Can you guys shed light on how the field is ? How is work ? How is pay ? Thanks
