Anti Zepto model by partnering with Kiranas

I am currently building Kirana.Pro an anti Zepto model where we don’t have any dark stores. Instead we partner with nearby Kirana stores. What do you think of this idea? Can it win like how Namma Yatri won against Ola and Uber?

Apart from the fact that zepto, Grofers(now Blinkit) started with similar model, There are other people still doing it. Phonepe has app called Pincode which does this with ONDC integration. I'm not sure if they are doing that well, but I've hardly seen anyone use it. Also how do you differentiate from Pincode ?

Zepto as a product started with dark store model itself. Kiranakart used the hyper local model.

That's a pedantic difference. By that logic Blinkit also always used Dark store model and Grofers used hyperlocal model

I don’t know if you’ve surveyed the market before picking up this idea. There are lots of similar business models, will highlight major problems as I worked in the ecosystem -

  1. Shop owner doesn’t have an obligation to fulfil the order leading to failed orders.

  2. No commission in itself isn’t sustainable

  3. Comparing it with Namma Yatri (NY) is fundamentally wrong. In NY payment is done post the service fulfilment, CoD is one of the costliest mechanism in any eCommerce. There’s no RTO cost in NY, in kirana there would be a huge RTO cost.

No, too many smart people have done that model. Unless there is something different in the last 2-3 years, there is not fundamental reason for that model to exist now.

I can go into the depths (inconsistent inventory at kiranas, price of delivery, not a superior experience vs Zepto etc.)

I have made Success vs Fail, hope it may help:

Success:

  1. More business to Kirana shops
  2. No commission to be paid (assuming)
  3. People’s trust on local shops could reach to a level like in traditional days

Fail:

  1. Kirana owners don’t understand on leak proof packaging, so need to train which will take significant time.
  2. Few shops rely only on cash mode
  3. Non standardized quality and quantity - they better know how to manipulate customers

Hey @Aadit I’m @salt Some questions from my side: 1. As companies scale there are many diverging opinions...

How do you think about hiring within Zepto? It is now commonly understood that pedigree is not the sole indicator ...

user

Just wanted to ask, do you ever use competitor apps? If yes, then what is your guiding mantra on copying a feat...

Kirana Stores using technology

Do you think Kirana stores will die due to dark stores? Or they will start using technology?

Ps: I am starting something on this space called KiranaPro.

Crazy execution, no doubt. To build a brand and scaled operations in this short a time!

I don't believe it. I rarely see zepto delivery on streets but blinkit looks more common.

Those numbers and they are still not profitable. Where's the gap?
