because few of these things are made up to get grapes.

In other cases, people are just afraid, because no matter what "anonymity is a myth"

I still don't get it. Why would someone collect grapes? Does it pay or what?

GrapeVine’s anonymity is not actual anonymity, because accounts are linked to phone numbers. Imagine if grapeVine gets hacked, everyone’s identity would be open as air. I wonder why didn’t GrapeVine folks allowed registration via email, that would have been far more anonymous.

They wouldn't be able to control spam

@SabChangaSi There could be other ways of controlling spam, like limiting number of accounts from same IP address, and putting better content filter on the app etc. I don’t think it would have been a big issue, specially when grapevine is not superfamous right now. Later on they could have introduced more safeguards if spam flooding would have become a concern .

Tbh a large company like WhatsApp is fighting our govt for our privacy, Grapevine is too young to defend it rn incase something does happen.

WhatsApp and privacy is not something that goes hand in hand

We should also understand why government wants to track messages. Tracking criminals has become hard. Back those in sms days, one could easily track the origin of message and thus tracking criminals was easy. But now with all encrypted social media services, planning crimes is easy. So one should also understand goverment's perspective

I was going to call these people cowards but then on second thought, is Grapevine really an anonymous platform? My account is LinkedIn to a phone number. What stands between my identity and law enforcement/private companies is a promise by the founders of this app which can be broken a fat compensation for the details.

To all who don’t share details of companies- continue doing it, share stories but never share any detail which can get you identified

A good approach for whistleblowers would be to provide hints to somewhat identify the company. This would help both the whistleblower to maintain plausible denialability in case things go north and also would help those people to find out the name of the company by going the extra mile.

After all not everyone is going to take time out of their busy lives to search for an obscure startup to be wary of ,but for those who want the path has already been laid by the whistleblower and one would only need to use their detective skills to find out
