AMEX vs current company

Background: YOE: 4 Education: ECE from one of the top 5 NITs Current CTC: 15 LPA (all fixed, including bonus) Offered CTC: 26.2 LPA (all fixed, including bonus)

Started current role in 2021 at 11 LPA → now at 15 LPA after 4 years. Delivered multiple critical projects but somehow got played politically. Yearly hikes: 5%, 8%, 0%, 20% (with promotion). Now, after receiving the new offer, the current company is ready to match it. Compensation-wise, no issue, but long-term factors matter.

Staying in Current Company

Pros: • Good rapport with manager • Strong visibility across domain, business stakeholders, skip-level managers • Flexible WFH → minimal rent/commute since office visits are occasional • Stable role with good visibility

Cons: • After this match hike, no further hike for 1–1.5 years • Highly political environment, lots of false promises • Management will expect extra responsibilities since they “stretched” to retain • Limited future growth (unlikely to cross 30 LPA in 2 years) despite strong delivery history • Current application has complex business logic, but not technically challenging

Joining New Company (AMEX)

Pros: • Better work-life balance • Stronger brand → easier long-term career progression (e.g., moving to product-based companies) • Better hike cycle expectations compared to current company • Tech stack aligns with career goals

Cons: • 3 days mandatory work from office, which means i will have to relocate to BLR from my hometown.

Help me choose between the two by giving your word of advice considering the long term career affect. Also people at AMEX, help to throw some light on your culture.

You were taken for a ride by your manager and your company. If you can't just be moved from 15lpa to 26lpa, that's a 60% hike or ~3 20% promo hikes.

Prepping and job switch comes at a good cost - you invest in leetcode/system design, applying etc instead of spending time elsewhere.

You've already done your work. Join AMEX. And yes, move to Gurgaon. As someone who lived in Koramangala for years, Gurgaon feels amazing. The AMEX campus is humongous!

My suggestion - take a flight to Delhi, see the campus, and meet the team. HR will be more than happy to schedule an in-person with the manager at the office (wasn't that the norm before 2020?).

It's a big life decision. If you're confused, spend a bit of extra money and make it easier for you to decide.

I already asked for Gurgaon, but since my hiring manager and team is based out of BLR, recruiter couldn't do that. Recruiter said if i am looking for gurgaon then I have to decline this and interview again for some rounds with another HM. I didn't wanna risk it, hence have accepted for BLR.

Take AMEX's offer and look out for more during your notice period.
There are companies still offering remote work, though very rare.

They should have increased the comp earlier itself not when you got another offer. Is this a developer role ?
