Your manager will not get official intimation but your new hiring manager will definitely get feedback from your current manager and it also has high weightage.
So inform your manager well in prior and let him/her know your career aspirations and hope they give good feedback.
Another point, some hiring managers may not prefer role conversions, so don't keep your hopes high.
BTW, the "official intimation" I said is only during your initial applying and internal interview process, once it completes and the hiring manager decides to go forward with you, your manager will get official intimations and he/she has to decide on your last working day in their team. If they say you can't change teams without completing so and so tasks, you either have to wait till you complete those or prepare for the worst rating for that year.
