🚀 AMA: Ask Me Anything - No Filters, Just Facts!
Got burning questions about TCS life, appraisals, bench survival, RMG mysteries, or project politics? Drop them below, and I’ll answer with brutal honesty, sarcasm where needed, and zero sugarcoating.
Format: 1 [Topic] - Your question 2 [YOE & Role] - Helps me give a relevant 3 [Context] - Optional, but useful 4 [Expectation] - What kind of answer do you want? (Reality check? Motivation? A roast?)
🔥 Example Questions:
[Bench] - 2 YOE, ASE - How long can I stay before TCS reminds me I’m disposable?
[RMG] - 5 YOE, SE - Is rejecting projects a skill I should master?
[Hike] - 6 YOE, ITA - What’s the minimum percentage, or should I just not ask?
[WFH] - 4 YOE, Lead - Can HR track me, or is it just a psychological trick?

[WFH/Support Project] - 6 YOE, ITA - Basically I want to get a project where I will get work life balance, less work. Till now I had been working on a development project but now wants to rest and work less. Want to give time to myself and family. Will get released from 1st March. From now onwards I am getting project calls but not able to understand how to achieve my goal as all the project calls are for development projects only. Could you please help me with this?

Work-life balance isn’t about choosing support over development, it depends on the project's culture, team, and management. Plenty of dev projects have chill environments, and some support roles are a nightmare with 24/7 calls. If you want balance, target projects with stable workloads, flexible managers, and clear expectations.
Don’t trap yourself in support just for an illusion of "less work", it’ll hurt your career in the long run. Support roles rarely add strong skills to your profile, and most companies prefer development experience for better-paying jobs.
If you’re okay with career stagnation for comfort now, go ahead, but don’t expect easy growth or good offers later. Choose wisely.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.
Could you please tell me some way to find out target projects with stable workload ,flexible managers, and clear expectations? I mean how I will get this info because the people who calls for interviews will most probably won't share these.

[Hike] - 3.5 YOE, SE - I have started my career with TCS now having 3.5 YOE in GIS. Is there any scope to change the domain inside TCS. also by when I can expect my next promotion having A,B, 4.5 (this year )bands in previous yrs.

Switching domains within TCS is possible but challenging, especially if your current skills don’t align with high-demand areas. Networking, upskilling, and internal job postings (IJPs) can help.

For promotion, with your band history (A, B, 4.5), you have a fair chance, but timing depends on business needs and eligibility cycles. Keep pushing for opportunities while exploring options outside if growth feels stagnant.

1.2 YOE ASE, want to switch because got test-automation instead of development but really unsure about how to tackle notice period of 3 months once I get an offer also how to navigate through interviews should I pose my experience as tester or should I fake it as developer. I'm pretty good with dsa and backend development in Java and a have a bit of AWS and Google cloud knowledge as well also how to get past resume screening as I'm applying to atleast 20 30 companies but mostly getting rejections even though ats score is 82-85

Also got it verified with an experienced professional he mentioned that the resume is good

Be honest, faking experience can backfire. Highlight your Java and backend skills while positioning automation as a plus. Tailor your resume, focus on strong projects, and apply smartly. Negotiate notice period buyout if possible. Stay consistent. All the best 👍

(Promotion) 3.10 YOE SE -continuous 3 B bands am I eligible for ITA promotion, promoted to SE 2 years back what are the chances ?

[onsite] 9yoe,ITA --what is the best way to get onsite in tcs?if i will be oin bench and can i get onsite if i mention to RMG as i am much exp in tcs and pkg is very low.

Interesting question. When did you join TCS?

Getting onsite in TCS is all about timing, networking, and strategy. Target long-term projects with onsite demand, align your skills & domain, and network with managers & RMG. If you're underpaid, you can use it as a reason to push for onsite.
Bench alone won't get you onsite, your best bet is to get into a project with onsite potential and prove your value!

1)Wings 1, 2) 3.6 yoe role: Automation tester,
3) I've been trying for wings 1 for more than a year now, they have now announced that the selection of tech tracks will be based on the IOU you belong to. For my unit, the track I've been attempting for the last one year isn't in the unit track list. I have no knowledge on the other tracks that are in the units list as I have worked really hard for that one particular track that isn't in the list. I have been asking for a release for more than a year and finally will be released this quarter end. So my question is, if I'm unallocated then will I still be tagged to the same IOU? Can I select the track I wish to select if I'm unallocated?
Honestly, I'm tired of the frequent changes they bring to the wings 1 policies. I have started to feel demotivated and disappointed.

I know it’s frustrating, but don’t let this setback define you. Once unallocated, you might get more flexibility in choosing a track. If not, consider a related one, it could open new doors. While preparing you can apply to switch too. You’ve worked hard, and your release is finally happening. Stay adaptable, and your persistence will pay off!

Which track did you prepare?

5 YOE, working hard, unable to get job calls , hike during appraisal is negligible , Motivation

Hang in there! The job market can be unpredictable, but staying consistent will pay off. Keep upgrading your skills, tailor your resume for each application.
You’ve worked hard, and that effort will pay off. Believe in yourself, stay consistent, and remember: tough times don’t last, but tough people do! Keep going, your breakthrough is closer than you think.
[job Security] - 8 YOE, LEAD - is tcs the most secure job among all IT companies ?

TCS is definitely one of the most secure companies, especially compared to many private IT firms. No mass layoffs, stable projects, and a strong bench policy help maintain job security. However, long bench time, performance issues, or major restructuring can still pose risks. If stability is your top priority, TCS is a solid choice, but always keep upgrading your skills!

[RMG] - 0 YOE , SE - Got forced into an irrelevant support based project in my pre mapped domain by RMG without my consent even after giving my skills. Don't think this experience would be useful in my future at all and I am not interested in devoting 2 years for this. What's the next step?, resign and post fake experience in the relevant tech stack?

If you're certain this project won't help your career, try negotiating with RMG for a project switch based on your skills. If that fails, upskill on your own time and start applying externally. Avoid fake experience, it’s risky in the long run. Focus on gaining real skills and finding a relevant role.
