Always considered SME roles in high regards than management

Technical roles are more rewarding and satisfying. It puts your skills to test and gives a feeling of being in control. Whereas management feels too chaotic, too much dependencies and trying to control areas beyond reach. It feels like constant firefighting whereas technical feels like building something from scratch. Found many seniors struggle to transition from tech to managerial roles after promotions and later regret.

What's your take?

This is not limited only to tech. Any role for that matter, just don't become a traffic police at your workplace. You will become obsolete and will be the first in queue to get laid off if a scenario happens. Only someone who is hands-on and does actual work having the knowhows even if they are a manager stand a decent chance to survive. You become so out of touch if you're just passing emails and taking updates. And your junior is always eyeing for your spot trying to replace you if given a chance.
