AI Is Coming for Indian IT. Do You Have a Plan B?
Let’s be honest. Indian IT grew massively because global companies outsourced work here. The core advantage was simple: skilled talent at lower cost.
That advantage is now under direct threat. AI doesn’t need sleep. It doesn’t need salaries, visas, or offshore coordination. Tasks that were routinely outsourced - data processing, report generation, basic development, testing, support are increasingly being handled by AI faster and cheaper.
This shift won’t happen overnight, but it’s already started. And it will accelerate.
The uncomfortable question is: when companies can delegate work to AI instead of outsourcing it, where does that leave millions of Indian IT professionals whose roles depend on that model?
So what’s your Plan B?
Are you: • Upskilling into AI-resistant roles? • Moving closer to business and decision-making functions? • Building specialized expertise? • Or still assuming things will continue as they always have?
Ignoring this shift won’t stop it.
Curious to know how others in Indian IT are preparing for the next 3–5 years.

There is no AI resistant role, there is no amount of upskilling that will make you safe, upskilling is linear, AI improves in exponentially. All these influenzars regurgitating phrase “AI will not replace you, someone using AI will” are living in fools paradise, the job you prepare for will not exist in future.

With no IT or less, India will lose its biggest middle class who spends.
Automobile, Finance, Real estate, FMCG all thrive on the money brought in by IT.
In the short term- Learn AI and try to be relevant for as long as you can.
Talks of land farming and selling food or anything looks good when from outside but not in reality. Also, it works well when seller to buyer is 1:100 not when it's 50:50

That's very true.. almost all my friends are from farming background. Despite of having lot of land, they are doing job for stability. Farming is very unstable and loss making.

People who talk about farming casually haven't even sprouted beans successfully in their life.

People moving out of IT right now due to “AI is coming” can be the stupidest decision of your life. Once and for all - AI cannot do its job without a developer guiding it.
Yes Claude is great, but can your grandmother use it to develop apps? no?
How about your father/mother? no?
Let’s come to this generation - people who have never coded in life - doctors, CA, artists - can they create apps/software? no?
So chill! Learn how to use AI. Be an expert in basics Python, Java, SQL. The routine has not changed.

I partially agree on this. And yes, we must know the things which we are asking AI to do so that we can review and get the things done from AI.

Read the signs and understand the politics brother. Which company is creating the most noise that AI will replace software developers? It’s not Google, it’s not OpenAI, it’s Anthropic. They have been pushing this agenda like crazy. And recently who got the 30 billion dollar funding? If they didnt create the frenzy, they wouldn’t get the funding.
And now that they received the funding - you know what’s the first thing they are doing? Opening their first India office in Bangalore. Who is going to work in that office? AI bots? Or software developers?

It's not just IT companies that will die , I see major B2B software products die. When there would be no humans using software there would be no need for companies like atlassian , Microsoft windows , teams , slack , and the other stuff. Even ERP and CRM companies like Salesforce , Sap doesn't seem to have a business.
Not only this if millions are out of job who would be the consumers. The whole economic activity is going to reset.
What I see is we would be fighting wars back to the world wars and king based systems as empty human brain is very dangerous.

Will sell biryani at a nice fancy outlet. I've learnt it.

Yes, anything apart from IT works. All the best!

Certified priest!

AI will not replace humans,
Nature of roles will change,
I think every professional who understands how the systems work, will definitely find a way to survive

If its going to come for everyone..
