After 6 years of work in same team, got underperformance feedback for first time

Have been in this team for the last 6 years and gave them everything I could. Got promoted in 2022 and 2025. Yesterday our MD set up a meeting with me and told me that I have been underperforming. His reasoning was that, last quarter I wasn’t able to complete some projects which nobody else in the team could complete. He said that despite seeking assistance from other senior consultants and managers the project could not be completed. I replied saying that not everything is humanly possible and since nobody else could complete the project, so expecting me to complete it is unreasonable. Finally realized that I was just a figure in my MDs spreadsheet. As long as I could deliver on my own, I got awarded, once I got stuck, I became a scapegoat.
