Trending @Infosys; Advice to freshers

My dear fellow Infoscions, Based on your past experiences, what are all the tips and tricks u would give to a fresher who is new to a project. What exactly does the team expect from a fresher? Any kind of response would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please don’t be demotivated by the naysayers. Infosys is a great launchpad and it’s very good that you’re into a project.

The expectation from a fresher is minimal, in most cases. You’d have a Tech Lead or Tech Analyst with whom you’ll work.

Here is some piece of advice, take it or leave it.

  1. Try being a self-starter. Ask questions in the KT, write down everything that you’ve discussed and understand your project.
  2. Don’t jump to your TA/TL at the first glance of an error or confusion. Try understanding what is there, do your homework, list your assumption and then reach out to the TA/TL.
  3. Be comprehensive in your communication. Avoid “Hi, I have some issue. Can call?”. Describe your issue, write down your doubts, be vary of other people’s time and others will be vary of yours too.
  4. Always keep upskilling, no matter what. Infosys has wonderful LEX programs, you can see what technology your TA/TL uses or talks about and you can self-learn it. If you see all the code is deployed to a Kubernetes cluster, don’t wait to learn Kubernetes when work comes. Pick it up by the side.
  5. Have a personal connect with at least one person in your team. Have periodic reviews about your performance and expectation. Don’t assume your expectation. You might not be expected to do something and you might be doing it and vice versa. If you don’t do what is expected, you won’t be appreciated of doing what is not expected out of you. Just sync with your senior to see if you’re meeting their expectations.
  6. Review your career progression every 6 months. Review your financial progression every year. If you’re not satisfied in the first one, see what more you can do internally or outside. If you’re not satisfied with the second one, ask for more money with data backing what you’ve done or consider switching.
  7. Be humble! You’re not doing the company a favor by working for them & same goes the other way.

Don't say "Good Morning team" in team call, say "GM team". It gives a different level of satisfaction as not all " GM" means Good Morning

Learn as much as possible, ask your project mate wherever possible to give you work and also put effort into learn from seeing the code developed by your teammates. Take a note and prepare for best . Stay for 2 year .. apply outside and try to clear the interview and try to get 100% hike .. by changing after 1year may not help either good hike or learning. You might struggle even you will change so better learn as much before changing

My senior is busy mostly. Whenever I ask, he tells me to go through the docs. Which are a little dry. Tried self learning
But 🥲

Here's my 6 piece advice for everyone new at Infosys, joining infosys, or anyone.

  1. Don't join Finacle if you don't know banking.
  2. Don't stay at Infosys in the early stages of your career; come back as a manager or at JL6 level (if you love Infy).
  3. Ask as many questions as you receive in the project or any other thing related to your role at Infy.
  4. Get everything in writing; don't believe anyone.
  5. Managers leave their spies in the team to keep an eye on you.
  6. Ask if you can try the project for a week before officially joining the team.

Starting they will be providing you with basic tasks and nothing much.

As you gain experience their expectations from you will also increase exponentially.

Best of luck buddy.

First ask your lead or anyone else what the expectations from you are.. set it clearly. Then ask them what learning they expect from you and what is the timeline of it.
Secondly if you need more help from them let them know that you don't know or understand something and tell them you are willing to learn.. most of them would help out but if they don't find another colleague or team mate to ask your doubts. Maybe ask who will be your mentor..
With respect to client work information that is needed should be asked in mail. It will be proof that you asked for help.
And learn the company process very clearly by seniors who have been in this company for a while. That should also help.
Absorb and learn as much as you can in 2 years. It will help you overall.
