[Advice Needed] : Applied to over 3000 roles over the span of 9 months still fail to get hired despite working in GenAI
Hey guys, I am a software engineer with experience in the latest field of Generative AI with around 2 years of experience and I'm reaching out here to the community to be able to get some help or any advice to land my next opportunity and yes I'm a 2023 grad. I got laid off from my first firm and was given the vague reasoning of internal restructuring along with 5-10 percent of my company.
So far I've interviewed for around 30 companies and apart from a contract gig I got in the middle I've not been able to secure any opportunities and I'm desperate for advice as to what I can do to be able to land roles.
I'm doing everything right, I've grinded dsa going over 600+ problems and have good knowledge in Generative AI / NLP concepts and system design as well and have still failed to get hired.
My dad might end up losing his job as well since his company is going through losses and because of him I've been able to patiently look for roles so far but now the situation is ending up dangerous with minimal savings on our end and I'd appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks!

Are you applying to AI startups? There's plenty of them around these days. Did you get any reasons for rejections?
Talk to your friends, family, batchmates and ex colleagues, ask them if they can refer you in their companies. Warm intros will be better for you rather than LinkedIn apply.

I'll give you the simplest solution, make sure your resume has quantitative points, if not, remake it. Upskill, develop projects or if you already have, host them using Streamlit or gradio, post them on LinkedIn posts and talk about the project, the problem statement you solved, the approach you took and why. When this is done, find companies that recently got funded in the AI space, should be easy to find. Find the names of the founders or tech heads, go to Apollo and get their email IDs. Email them a short pitch. Introduction -> Why you want to join the company and how you can contribute to the problem they're solving -> Your best projects/Achievements in bullet points (max 3-4) -> Last paragraph ask them if they would be available for a chat to discuss your candidacy that week -> attach resume -> send. This WILL get you interviews.

Stop applying to LinkedIn easy applications and job boards, I might be wrong, but something is wrong with that system, it never serves.

Ohh I see, l will try following this. In general so far I got interviews by applying through a career website and some referrals although even referrals aren't working in the current market. A literal director referred me to a good korean based PBC which is there in bangalore and I got rejected

Its hard to understand with good dsa and gen ai field couldn't get hired! Bro what tech you have in gen ai list them

I've had experience building RAG applications using Vector databases like ChromaDB, and have decent experience with AI agents like Microsoft AutoML and have normal backend engineering experience using Python, Flask, FastAPI and databases like Spark SQL and Postgres

Apart from this I have experience in standard devops stuff like Microsoft Azure, CI/CD, GitHub Actions

Have you put up your resume on Naukri?
If not do that and also try to create some use cases and post that on linkedin with a video. You have to showcase your skills.
Trust me on this you will get a lot of good reach. I have seen this pattern being applied by all experienced MLEs 5+ YoE

I have simple advice for you, just put 1 year effort and get a Government job. After 8th pay, central government salary will increase at least by 30%. You will have job security plus no fear of AI taking jobs or anything.

Won't help. I'm general category...

See if you can have EWS certificate?

Hello brother I may sound bad but I will get chance to stay at home for 9 months i would have gained more skill then the skill set you have mentioned in other comments
I may be wrong as you may have in-depth knowledge of gen ai
some questions is your are confident enough to crack dsa and lld + hld interview for sde role of amazon ? (this is the current benchmark for good software engineer)
I have no knowledge on ai ml dl or gen ai but I would ask the same thing that do you have confidence to crack the senior ai engineer interview ?
wish the best for you 🙏

I apologise but what more should I do.
I spent my college years doing competitive programming, I'm almost an expert on codeforces, have solved over 700 problems on leetcode and over 200 problems in an old platform called binary search IO.
I have knowledge in LLD and Hld And have followed famous playlists like Gaurav sen, alex xu for them.
I am strong in dsa including hard topics like graphs and DP.
I keep getting ghosted over and over again, amazon rejected me after over a month in my final round despite the fact that I gave my 100 percent and initially ghosted me. A lot of other companies did the same.
Tldr; your argument doesn't apply to me. I used to be a strong competitive programmer and haven't lost the competitive programming muscle yet. I am almost expert on codeforces with over a 1000 problems solved across leetcode, gfg and binary search IO platforms.
I've studied system design from popular resources like Gaurav sen, alex xu and LLD from various other youtubers.

Use instahyre, uplers jobsfeed, hirist.tech for applying
This might help
Try to apply for sde 1 roles as well

Yes I prefer SDE 1
Hirist needs 3 years a lot of times I tried applying for them and even filled their own Google forms but never heard back so it's dead
Instahyre is the worst right now I applied to over 700 jobs there I didn't include this in my above post or else my total applied including cold emails would cross like 4000 it's a dead platform they look at my resume but won't interview me
Uplers is very very shady I got a call from a pune based startup there but they ghosted me as well
Jobsfeed will check thanks for the new platform

Also use chatgpt to review your resume and suggest any improvements and roles you can apply for

Nobody wants to go for a decent paying job...everyone wants to become a crorepati So frankly if you really think if your job searching is more about your immediate financial need and not anything else atleast for now, try applying in tier 2 or 3 MNCs, pretty sure people will take in... But dont expect it to be high paying or aligned with skill and stuff like that....
Need to compromise for some time when things are not in your way and when you are in urgent need.
But if you cant, keep trying...you should end with some good opportunity with time!

I am applying to tier 2 or tier 3 MNCs actually I'd like to get into them since a lot of them are doing well. Do you think there are over 3000 MNCs which are tier 1? No. I'm applying to normal companies too. I literally come from a startup so anything from here is a positive for me.

Tier 2 or tier 3 are actually preferred by me for example normal decent MNCs like philips or LG or Xiaomi etc but I'm not getting shortlisted despite getting referrals. They're actually preferred by me since they won't lay off immediately as well. I'm not concerned about pay now and I'm not filtering by top companies.
