Trending @Cognizant; Addressing Unprofessional Behavior in the Flexi-Seating Arrangement

Today, I utilized the office's flexi-seating option. While the convenience of a flexible workspace is appreciated, I encountered some concerns impacting my ability to focus.

Unfortunately, the noise level in the flexi-seat area was disruptive. Several individuals, particularly new joiners, seemed to have a different understanding of appropriate office etiquette. Their volume exceeded professional levels, making it difficult to concentrate.

Additionally, I observed instances of personal conversations that were inappropriate for a work environment, including discussions on politics, personal relationships, and other non-work-related topics. Furthermore, some colleagues were exhibiting overly familiar physical contact while working.

To maximize the effectiveness of the flexi-seat option for all employees, I believe it would be beneficial to address these issues. Perhaps a company-wide reminder on professional conduct and noise levels could be circulated.

If maximum crowd is going to be Gen c’s and PA it’s going to be the same result be it flexi seat or dedicated odc for a project. They only want to come to office to chat/flirt/play mobile games.

You raise a good point about potential challenges with a Gen Z and PA heavy flexi-seating area. It might be helpful to explore solutions that address noise levels and focus, regardless of the seating arrangement.

Or maybe it's possible because they aren't getting work? Care to think like that?

people here who are specifically targeting PAs and GenZs, let me tell you, I am a PA and I have met the most unprofessional leads, managers, seniors in this company. Freshers are barely getting work here, when they approach seniors they are dismissed like beggars, there are freshers who come to office, don't talk to anyone, and feel they don't belong here and leave because they don't have any work. I have heard managers talking about their girlfriend's cramps on the phone in the ODC, laughing loudly and banging desks. No fresher wants to remain in their "college campus" after joining corporate. We all want to learn things, experience real-time projects and network with better people. If you have a problem with "PAs talking loudly", use your authority and talk to them, maybe guide them and help them getting into projects, a 10 minute conversation with these freshers can make a great impact.

Agreed. Those who make generalisations like that are just biased. Unfortunately, bias is human nature and can't be changed easily.

Its a big disturbance i agree. People should be careful thinking about others too if they are in work or in meetings or anything. At the same time i definitely say that these things arise because Cognizant has no projects to give to people but still they are hirings thousands of people every year, and even if some are having projects, they are not being given any training or any work, just a project for namesake waste of time. And cognizant is making people stay 10 hours compulsory in office all 5 days with no exemptions, when there are no seating available to book. Hence people cant just keep reading all 10 hours with no breaks and all. They do need little breaks from the stress of having no project and career tensions. Please try telling them when you are being disturbed, it’s good if they stop or else they are wrong to disturb your work like that.

Some might say if it is all such a problem leave the company as no one is forcing you, but frankly speaking family pressures and situations like not getting other opportunities because of being a fresher or 1.5 years experience with no project experience is forcing people to stay in cognizant. I just hope the situations will settle and everyone will get good projects. Sorry if i offended anyone, just wanted to tell my opinion. And i hope You won’t face any more problems like this.

I completely agree that everyone should be mindful of a professional work ethic, regardless of workload. It can be frustrating when people continue to be disruptive even after being asked politely.

Perhaps a gentle company-wide reminder about office etiquette could be helpful. This could be a positive approach to refreshing everyone's understanding of appropriate noise levels and work conduct.

You're right, some people might use downtime between projects to upskill or network. It's a great opportunity for professional development!

I understand your frustration about the cafeteria environment mirroring the concerns you have in the flexi-seating area. Maybe creating designated quiet zones could help in both locations.

Atleast you got a seat! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I understand your point, but having a seat isn't really the issue. I'm hoping we can find a way to create a more professional atmosphere in the flexi-seating area for everyone to be productive.

See that's wrong with the crowd. No one can stop people from talking but it's unprofessional of people to conduct themselves in an uncivilized manner making it difficult for others to sit.

There's no point in teaching em, at first if they had even some manners they wouldn't be doing like that. Idk it's me or I kinda this batch of newbies, they don't know Sh*t but act like all high n mighty. They can't even speak properly(i mean I ain't concerned bout their language or accent i mean I do get it; but atleast they don't even have clarity on what they are talking bout I mean seriously are they dumb!!?, kya engineering Kia tu bsdk baat bhi karna ni aata) well i am frustrated i guess hahaha. But yeh instead of mass hiring they should be more concerned on "How open they are to communication" than how technically skilled they are cuz they aren't. Becuz, Communication is more important to team than Technical I feel tho I might be wrong juz an opinion

That's true!! I've encountered this too. A guy, apparently a fresher received a phone call on loudspeaker and the other guy literally started abusing. Entire ODC was alarmed at that but no one said anything. It was my first day in that ODC so I also chose to keep quiet but the environment is really pathetic nowadays. People have come back to office but they're still working from home lol

in my location there's open odc and there are two sound polluting group one is surely people in PA level but trust me most of them are frustrated as they are in bench with no guidance, next are the people who talk/shout in their calls, i think they donot understand that how high their volume is as they use headphones
