About freelancing as experience

Guyz you all are more experienced then me just wanted to know that as a software engineer, can we add our freelancing work as experience? Will it help to get hired? Like if projects requirements are there, invoices are there. These things I have done two three years before just wanted to know if I can add them, or will recruiters in IT count them as experience. What are your thoughts on this?
