A sales girl asked me for money to pay her credit card bill. Is it genuine or scam ?

I had bought some perfumes from one perfume shop in a mall recently. It was the second time I went to that shop this year. It had the same sales girl and she recognised me. I usually make some nice small talk with the sales people and don't like being rude to them.

She messaged me on whatsapp a few days after I bought the perfumes. She probably took my number from the billing information .Initially she said her manager was there so she could only give 20% discount, if I let her know I am coming in advance, she can give me 40% discount so I thought that woule be nice, but I didn't have plans of buying more then.

Today morning she messaged me saying she has a credit card bill due of 8000 and she has to pay 2000 more and she will turn it in 1-2 days.I know what it's like to have credit card bills overdue (because I have had the experience of a lot of collection agents visiting) and some part of me feels like helping but I also feel like this could be the beginning of a dangerous scam where she asks 20 thousand of 2 lakhs in later day and with evidence of money movement from my account to her's might backfire in some way What do you think ?

  1. Don't encourage this. The chances of it being a scam >>> chances of her being genuine
  2. The next time a store asks for your number while billing, just ask them to skip it. Did that at a lot of stores, it is possible.

I would pay 2k is not a big amount specially if it helps the person in their difficult times

Just worried if it would be used to funnel more money from me later on

Credit card bill is a nightmare of you are someone who is unable to pay. If amount is less, check their bill
If you are in a position to help, settle that. Less than 5k should be fine, 8k is a little more i guess, helping someone get out of credit bill misery.

Think about the worst- What if she tries to spin it around and somehow trap you. Or best case she never returns it. Best to avoid such cases. She'll manage somehow
