In 2016, my tech journey began in Bangalore as a Java developer intern at a small startup. Learning and gaining industry experience were my main goals, and the internship was unpaid. After six months, I was offered a permanent position. Although I never got the promised salary of 2LPA, I was happy to have more opportunities to learn and upskill myself. I learned front-end development, built an Android app, and deepened my backend expertise. It was a phenomenal learning experience.
In 2018, I transitioned to a full-stack developer role at a Fintech company. Initially, the growth in learning and earning was decent. However, things took a turn. Upfront, I admit I wasn't overly concerned about income due to a comfortable family situation. Now things have changed drastically. Until now, I was not regretting the career choices I made but now I don't know exactly how to feel. Despite management's promises of a decent raise for the past two years, there has been no progress(Current - 8 LPA). Currently, I'm actively upskilling java and exploring new opportunities as a backend developer. Your guidance on aligning my salary expectations with market standards would be invaluable. Once you start with a low salary the next hike the industry always try to offer some percentage or multiple of it. You will have to crack interviews in places where they don’t look much at your past salary.
The whole notion of a person getting lowly paid must be avg to mediocre if flawed. On the other hand someone getting a higher package is thought as, there must be something in him for the old company to pay that much.
Haven’t seen any changes around the above and its going to continue for a while at least in India
Yeah, correct. That's exactly what is happening.
It is not that bad. You will have to switch and take the best hike you get and then slowly switch again. You will also have to up skill. You will need patience and hard work or lots of luck.
