A Boy's kindness to a fading life
This morning, I stepped onto my balcony—a rare thing for me. As I took in the view of the sky, trees, and flowers, something caught my eye. A dog lay on the road near my house, shivering. My first thought was that it might be cold, even though the weather wasn’t too harsh. But then I wondered was it sick? Was it starving?
There’s an old lady in our street who cares for 10-12 stray dogs, so I hoped it wasn’t hunger. I decided to take some bread and water to the dog. Another lady from the neighborhood brought biscuits, but the dog barely touched anything. It struggled even to drink water. I gently tried to feed it, placing food near its mouth, but it wouldn’t eat. A few minutes later, it managed to sit up, and I thought maybe it would recover.
I called multiple veterinary hospitals, but it was too early none were open. Two hours passed, and then something unexpected happened. Two little boys, around 9-11 years old, rode up on their bicycles. One of them carried a water bottle and tried to help the dog drink. Despite knowing the dog was in bad shape, he still tried.
The old lady who cares for the strays arrived and said, "The dog’s health is bad. I’ve been looking after it, but there’s nothing we can do now." Hearing this, the boy did something that truly touched me. He took two plastic bags, carefully held the dog’s legs, and moved it to the side of the road, ensuring it wouldn’t get hurt by passing vehicles. His small but thoughtful action brought tears to my eyes.
The neighbor aunty told him to wash his hands with soap, and he agreed without hesitation. At an era where most adults are lost in their own world, this little boy showed kindness, responsibility, and empathy.
Sometimes, it shines the brightest in the smallest actions, in the pure hearts of children.
