7 months in, how are we doing on resolutions for the year?

What's the one thing you had wanted to change / start / stop doing this year - call it resolution at the beginning of the year? How are you doing on that?

I wanted to get into a better rhythm on fitness and sustain the good eating habits from last year.

Where am I?

After a wasted JFM quarter, did somewhat okay in Apr, May and June. July has been not too bad. Baby steps: trying to get 3-4 hours in a week for fitness. I have realised habit formation is a function of stacking. When I workout on Saturday, I want to go to the gym on Sunday too and then on Monday and Tuesday and so on.. When I miss 2 days in a row, then I degrade to saying okay, let's start on Sunday - as a fresh week. Trying to break out of that and convincing myself today is as good as Sunday. :P Definitely improved, but a long way to go.

Would love to know about others here on and hope to get more inspiration.

As they say, one day at a time. So do you want to wait till Jan'24? :)

I think for the first time - doing actually really well
Wanted to work at an amazing place (something early stage) and doing that this year
Have gotten the time to exercise more regularly.

Getting more time to spend with family and friends.

Overall, this is probably the best year I have had since college, I think.

No @pareshan don’t derail me
The grindset is still not alpha enough

Switched from a large company to early stage. Built a ton of muscle, pure grindset. Tons of potential, and we’re just getting started, there’s ton of value to be created.

I think the moment I switched from New Years Resolution to “Let’s do it tomorrow” mindset, things changed.

I tend to have a shorter term view on the things that I can do while a longer term view on the results that they can have.

@salt - amazing! So good to hear that you are having fun. Anything worth it has grind as the key ingredient. Onwards and upwards.

How long did the muscle building take and how do you measure it? Just starting on the journey hence the question.

Gained 10kgs in 2022, started going to gym in Feb 2023, lost 5 kgs till now.
Started working on my own projects. Wanted to read 10 books, I've completed just 1 till now. Wanted to change the job but got 30% hike so staying back now. Tried to learn day trading but realized it's not my cup of tea. Currently focussing improving my skills and bringing depth in my knowledge

Wanted to change my job, did that but now feeling really unhappy here. Didn’t realise that comfort zone is called comfort zone for a reason

SwirlyPretzel

Oh that’s unfortunate.

The good thing is that when you put your mind to something you have made it happen. So I’m hopeful it gets better for you soon.

How long has it been ? And has it helped? I love the simplicity and tangibility of this goal - makes it very powerful 🚀🚀🔥🔥🔥

Almost a year. And I also attend contests. Total problems solved now stands at 543 and I can see good progress in my logical programming skills

Ah poor question, you just made me realize about the lack of progress I had set 4 goals: doing well at work, working on mind and body, spending time with loved ones, and doing something to give back

I have been successful... at one: doing well at work (from what I can tell) And the cost of that: everything else :)

A change is on the cards, hopefully soon...

Great to hear about the progress! It’s hard to get many things right at the same time. So don’t beat yourself up.

Might be good to have input levers as goals - read for 10 minutes a day, workout 3-4 times a week etc. The outcome should be a byproduct! Best wishes :)

Wanted to reduce weight. Have been doing good from 94kg to 78 rn. Goal is to be somewhere around 70s with lesser percent body fat.

Other goal is to get good at managing finance and people. Little progress.

SwirlyPretzel
SwirlyPretzel

Whoa! That’s nice 😊 How are tracking body fat percentage? And what helped the most in your journey?

Managing finance is a relatively easier one to pick up vs managing people 🤐🤐🤐

good luck @randomjocke 🚀🚀🚀

Body fat with help of weight measurement scale.

Getting into a sport. Made a group with my college friends to play badminton. An hour of play can easily burn 400+ calories.

Gym. Used to hate it as a college kid. Now I’ve fallen in love with it. I keep on learning new stuff about the workouts I do everyday. Apple Watch has been a big contributor in this success. Also an app named Hevy (helps with tracking) :)

To summarize I do 4/5 gym workouts a week. Plus 6 badminton games a week.

Whats working fairly well for me since last 3 years is having goals instead of resolutions. I commit to 4-5 measurable goals in the beginning of the year and do a weekly check in to see where I am.
The only idea is to do “significantly” better since last year.
I’ve also involved friends for fitness and we do end of day WhatsApp check-in so it helps maintain accountability and help each other out.

Happy to share more personally.

Yes makes sense. I have been a believer of inputs and especially measurable ones :) thank you!

Peer pressure / social reinforcement have a good way of pushing you too

I wanted to graduate with a 12 LPA+ CTC. Done.

Wanted to become learn enough so that I could understand personal finance, how money works and start investing. Done and dusted. (Understand MF in and out but not stock markets - still learning.) Mind you I am not a trader or don't wish to become one. I am a long term investor.

Wanted to progress in my dating life, but seems this is still a far fetched goal. This is the only part of my life that I am not happy with and I am not also able to fix it and this makes me feel sad. I feel so frustrated sometimes, I can't explain.

P. S. - whoever can fix my dating life, you are having a great treat from me for sure.

Best wishes on the dating endeavours - hard and a very important aspect to solve for sure :)
