2024 Graduate moving to Thane, Maharashtra for TCS job - Need advice!

Hi,

I'm a 2024 graduate from Chennai, and I've just landed a job as a Graduate Trainee at TCS in Thane, Maharashtra. I'm excited but also a bit nervous about the move.

Can anyone offer some advice on:

  • How's the cost of living in Thane?
  • Good areas to stay in Thane?
  • Anyone knows rooms availability ?(willing to share with roommates)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey, I was in your place about 2 years ago. Thane is affordable, compared to Chennai even. At least, that's been my experience. And as for Navi Mumbai, please don't get tricked into moving there. It's unhygienic and is literally a slum, you'll start hating Mumbai altogether even though that isn't the average experience. Thane on the other hand has a standard quality of life.
But... Why don't you try other companies in Chennai or somewhere close by given the package for Smart hires are the lowest? Let alone saving or investing, living comfortably will become a challenge too. Make an informed decision.

To answer your question about good areas in Thane,

• If you work out of Olympus, Hiranandani but it's on the costlier side. Or Waghbil; standard.
• If you work out of YP, Manpada locality.

Hope this helps.

Well honestly I don't personally recommend freshers to join TCS and rather start with a smaller or other company work for a few years and enhance your skills and your experience. The growth rate with companies is lower as compared to hikes you can get with a switch after experience . I especially don't recommend it if the offer is from outside your city as anyways you are hired for peanuts and then coping with living alone in a new city just adds to stress and dissatisfaction.

Joining after some experience will get you a better pay package then as a fresher. You might get a better role for the same work or if not not a better role might have a better package than your fresher joinee.

Thane is costly. Stay in Airoli or Mulund which is cheaper as compared to Thane.
