Mail to your manager citing reason and mention that you are informing in advance so that backup and dependency can be properly delegated. Also mention that if there are any issues from project perspective then please highlight so that can be addressed accordingly. Once he replies and it's sorted then apply leave. In case he creates nuacance, then reply by copying hr in cc. Although I would still suggest to wait for ipf bands to be submitted in system (approx March) then apply just in case they don't vent it out on ur band.

Just apply and add some reason, if it's a genuine reason then no issues but apply at least 2 weeks before to avoid any rejections.
