I don’t think the person commenting knows shit.

Any enterprise customer or AWS gets different pricing than what you see on the pricing page. When a company’s monthly bill can go in millions of dollars, you bet AWS gives them special pricing. Plus they have always tried to give special pricing on newer services so as to entice customers to try them out.

And Zomato was hosting their own Tidb stack before shifting to DynamoDB. So they aren’t wrong when they say it reduces operational complexity. And AWS’ control plane autoscales DynamoDB much better than a self-hosted TiDB stack managed by in-house SREs.

So, its both way true it has pricing benefits But, the primary reasons could be more benefits ( engineering related ) towards shifting to DynamoDB
